Introduction

In the Netherlands it is mandatory for soil investigating companies to upload and register CPT data (Cone Penetration Test) at the BasisRegistratie Ondergrond (a public institute). The BRO expects the data to be delivered in the socalled BRO-XML format. However, the historical GEF-CPT format (Geotechnical Exchange Format) still plays a significant role.

This website makes it possible to convert GEF-CPT files to the BRO-XML format. The automatic generated BRO-XML files are according to the latest BRO standards.

The XML standard originates from 1990 and has been designed with the following ideas in mind : platform independancy, human readable form and a hierarchical structure. However for the processing of CPT data the GEF-CPT format is still used. Because of that this website can also convert the other way around : from BRO-XML to GEF-CPT.

In the generated PDF file you will find graphical presentations of all measured parameters. TXT files contain information about conversion progres and validation. A standard Excel file (XLSX) shows all measured data organised as rows and columns.

After receiving files in GEF-CPT or BRO-XML format a confirmation mail will be sent immediately. After finishing conversion the generated (and original) files will follow. For the sake of clarity one email with content will be sent for each CPT test.

If you are interested in underlying theory or used techniques there is more to read under Technical. Examples of generated files can be viewed under Examples. Of course you can also directly request a conversion under GEF-CPT to BRO-XML and BRO-XML to GEF-CPT

The conversion software is currently undergoing testing. During this period, automatically generated files will require an additional manual check. As a result, processing may take slightly longer than usual. However, all results will still be delivered within the same working day. For the time being, this service is offered free of charge.
